Demonstration

Margaret Garrard

Hot on the heels of her superb demo for us just three months ago, we have invited Margaret back to entertain and challenge us again.  This time she will demonstrate piercing and painting techniques.  Margaret is so innovative and well-prepared that it is a pleasure to watch her work, and members leave her demo inspired to try something different. www.margaretgarrard.co.uk

Colin Fishwick

+ Elston Sawmill
Colin is a teacher and demonstrator of traditional and contemporary woodturning, who used to be a teach in both Secondary and Adult Education.  During a session when Jimmy Clewes was teaching his son, his own interest in woodturning was kindled and he quickly sought knowledge and skills wherever they could be found.  Recommended by a member, we look forward to an interesting evening. www.fishwickwoodcrafts.co.uk

Sarah Thirlwell

+ Elston Sawmill
Sarah uses recycled and reclaimed materials such as yogurt pots, vending cups and reclaimed acrylic and plywood to produce a range of vessels, jewellery and functional interior products for domestic and commercial interiors.
This is completely different from anything the club have seen before so it should be an interesting night.

Bob Chapman
Bob was one of the main demonstrators at last year’s AWGB seminar and SWC is happy to invite him back time and time again.  He always comes up with something new and this time it will probably be a spinning top box and a salt pot (small hollow form).  www.bobchapman.co.uk

Ian Clarkson

+ Elston Sawmill
Ian is a Tree Surgeon by trade and last year he gave us a quick lesson in the safe use of the chainsaw.  He is happy to repeat this (weather permitting) and to cut up wood brought along by members (as long as there’s not too much!!  Add to this his fine woodturning skills and a good evening should be had by all.  www.ianclarkson.com

Tracy Owen

+ Elston Sawmill
Tracy needs no introduction.  He has won many awards in National shows over the last twelve years and also writes articles for Woodturning magazine.  Having established himself as one of the few  woodturning professionals to derive his sole livelihood from woodturning, Tracy specialises in green wood turning of bowls and hollow forms to produce unique one off pieces. He also likes to add texture to his work which is achieved with sandblasting, carving, chain sawing, colouring and the use of the Robert Sorby texturing tool - which he invented.  www.tracyowen.com

Andrew Hall

+ Elston Sawmill
Andrew Hall, an old favourite of the club, is returning to give another of his very interesting demonstrations. He is most famous for making wooden hats, which he demonstrated to us a couple of years ago then, in 2009 he gave an equally interesting demonstration of turning a whisky flask. So it will be interesting to see what he comes up with this time. www.hallwoodhats.co.uk

Bob Neill

Bob's workshop is in Aston on Trent and he has been involved in art & craft all his life. One of the leaders in developing 'basic design ideas' in art education, during the 60's and 70's Bob exhibited large abstract paintings, mosaics and metal constructions in many top galleries across the country. His experience of using wood, metal and plastics took him into another area in the seventies - designing and making toys for disabled children.  Later he became part of the pyrographic revival - a traditional craft practiced for many years in South America, Africa, Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe.  Bob will be demonstrating pyrography tonight – he will not be turning.  www.bobneillpyrography.co.uk
